In 1849 "over 11 ferries crossed the Missouri between St Joseph, Missouri and Council Bluffs, Iowa."
Beginning in 1852 "more overland traffic would cross the Missouri River at Kanesville/Council Bluffs that any other "jump-off" point. Emigration was so heavy this year there was often a six-week wait at the ferry crossings."
Fulton ferries: discontinued in 1918.
