Discontinued Ferries:

Between La Crescent and La Crosse, WI: "1854 - First ferry on the Mississippi River between La Crosse and La Crescent. Ferry was a tread mill vessel powered by one mule. 1856 - First steam powered ferry used. Vessel was named the "Honey Eye." 1890 - Wagon bridge constructed over the Mississippi River, touching down at Jay Street."
